The 60 Second Update with

Charles Murray

5. Finally, can you recommend 3 things that you believe would have the greatest impact on improving failing schools?

1. Sever schools from the bureaucracy downtown. The main problem with most of today’s public schools is not the teachers, but the idiotic curricula foisted on them by centralized school systems.

2. Give every student who is trying to learn a safe, orderly, environment, no matter what. If that means expelling every student who is disruptive, so be it.

3. Let students go as fast as they can. We do that as a matter of course with students who are talented in sports or music. We should be as eager to do that with students who are academically talented.
