The 60 Second Update with

Charles Murray

4. Why does America's future depend on how we educate the academically gifted and what do you mean when you say we should "hold their feet to the fire"?

Because the people who rise to the nation’s important economic and cultural institutions, from banks to government to television networks, are overwhelmingly drawn from the ranks of the academically gifted. Since they have so much influence over our lives, whether we like it or not, we had better start giving them an education that teaches them not only professional skills, but gives them a rigorous education in the disciplines that will help them to eventually become wise.
