Congressman John Boehner

5. Besides healthcare reform, what are the 3 most important reforms that would help small businesses create jobs?

The first thing would be for the president and Speaker Pelosi to work with us on the recent package of solutions we put together, which include allowing small businesses to take a tax deduction equal to 20 percent of their income; reducing the current 15 percent tax rate to 10 percent and the current 10 percent rate to 5 percent for all taxpayers, freeing up capital for small businesses to retain and hire new employees; and increasing the net operating loss carry back from 2 to 5 years to provide struggling employers with additional resources to keep their doors open.

But that’s not all. The second big thing we should be doing is enacting reforms like the American Energy Act, an “all of the above” bill that unlocks American oil and gas, promotes alternatives like clean coal and renewable fuels, and sets a national goal of building 100 new emissions-free nuclear power plants within 20 years. Such a broad-based strategy would create new jobs and provide for our energy needs today while promoting a healthy environment and reducing our dependence on foreign energy.

And third, it’s time for reforms that end the bailouts once and for all, curb spending, get control of the debt, and stop the government from picking winners and losers in the market.
